La Dolce Pizza: Rome's Best Slices

You can eat for an eternity in the eternal city, which is why it’s so difficult to narrow down the best of the best. I’ve been to Rome four times now and the below pizzerias are the ones that keep me coming back.

Roscioli is my favorite pizza in all of Italy. Maybe I just like the bustling, cafe-like ambiance or the friendly workers but regardless of the reasons, Roscioli is not to be missed. Boasting multiple branches just on the crux of Campo Di Fiori, Roscioli brands a sit-down restaurant, a pastry shop, an enoteca, and a pizzeria. Head to the pizzeria for your choice of to-go slices with all sorts of delicious toppings. Try the burrata and pesto pizza or opt for anything with carciofi. If you want something more, order a riceball as a side. The suppli are small enough to justify eating one too many. If that’s still not enough, the back room serves pasta and vegetables, providing enough options to keep you full far beyond your lunch.

Another notable pizza joint hides in Trastevere: the youthful, vibrant part of Rome where I lived for three months. Dar Poeta has two locations. One is more casual and al taglio (by the slice), while the other is a sit-down restaurant with both indoor and outdoor seating on the edge of a narrow street. Located in an area less crowded than most Roman roads, Dar Poeta lets patrons enjoy a relaxing and slow meal with a menu large enough to sample anything from traditional pizza to more creative pies. Try the carbonara pizza for the perfect crossover between a classic Roman pasta and Italy’s beloved pizza.

If your itinerary includes a trip to the Vatican, fuel up before or after the museum at Pizzarium Bonci, only a short walk from Vatican City. With Bonci's creative pizza combinations, you’ll extend your tour of famous artworks by surveying a palette of colorful toppings. If you’re with a group, mix and match to try a few kinds. You can’t go wrong.

Honorary Mentions: Pinsere, mostly because of it's proximity to Come Il Latte (Rome’s best gelato) and Emma, located in central Rome and great for large groups
